Thank you for visiting to the Community page, @p-h. I’ll provide you with clarification and step-by-step instructions to guide you in splitting a transaction in QuickBooks Online.

If you've already recorded your transactions in the bank feeds, you can proceed with the following steps to complete splitting your entries.

  1. Go to the Banking menu.
  2. Locate the bank transaction and click it.
  3. Select Split transaction beside the Category section.
  4. Enter the sale on the first line. Then, on the second line, enter the refund as a negative amount.
  5. Select Apply and confirm.

On the other hand, if you're transaction is already in the View Register tab, you can follow this process.

  1. Go to the Transactions, then select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Find the account for the transaction.
  3. Under the Action column, select View Register.
  4. Select the transaction, then Edit. The entry screen for the particular transaction opens.
  5. Enter the accounts to add to the amount.
  6. Hit Save. The transaction is now displayed in the account column.

I'm also adding here a detailed guide that helps you manage your transactions in QuickBooks Online.
