It's great to have you here in the Community space, @tjd2650. I'd be glad to guide you through the process of transferring data from QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Before you begin, it is important to review the following details:

  • The option to import QBDT data is only available within the first 60 days of your QBO account.
  • There are certain limitations and differences in the import process between QBDT and QBO.
  • It is recommended to maintain both sets of books before deciding on whether QBO is the right version for your business.

To initiate the conversion process, you can begin by logging in as the Primary Admin in both programs.

  1. In your QBDT, open the file by going to the Company menu.
  2. Choose Export Company File to QuickBooks Online.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to connect to QBO.

Once completed, you can connect to QBO and proceed with importing your data. I have included an article that provides a comprehensive guide to help you through the entire process, from start to finish:  Convert QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.

After the conversion, it is important to verify if everything in the company file is functioning correctly. For guidance, kindly visit: What to do after converting from QuickBooks Desktop for Windows or Mac to QuickBooks Online.  This resource will provide instructions on how to verify and compare your financial reports, review account detail types, and complete the payroll setup.

Keep me in the loop if you need further assistance or have any additional QuickBooks-related questions. Simply leave a reply below, and I'll make sure to provide you with the necessary help.
