Thanks for getting in touch with the Community, Amy Bertolino.

To verify my understanding, when trying to run a report for this particular budget, what happens? Do you happen to see any error messages displayed, and if so, what are they saying?

If you could provide any screenshots of what you're seeing, these can also be helpful to give me a better understanding of what's occurring.

When creating your budget template in Excel, you'll want to be aware of a few things:

  • To format the template, QuickBooks uses account names instead of account numbers from your Chart of accounts. Because of this, you'll want to confirm you're using unique account names before downloading the sample file.
  • If you want to create a sub-divided budget by class, you need to specify it while generating your template. Budgets can be consolidated (company level) or sub-divided by class, customer, location, or other categories.
  • The sample budget xlsx file can be opened in Excel or Google Sheets.
  • When entering your budget for each account, don't add additional columns or rows. If you need more accounts to appear, add them to the Chart of accounts before downloading the sample template.
  • Before you finish uploading your template, review its cells and make sure the correct amounts are in each account. If you need to add any changes, select a field and make them before saving it.

You can edit an existing budget to see if you can identify any of the above-mentioned issues present on it:

  1. Use your Gear icon, then go to Budgeting.
  2. Find the budget on your list.
  3. In its Options column, click View/Edit.
  4. Edit each account one month at a time.
  5. To change the time period from monthly, quarterly, or yearly, switch between Yearly/Quarterly/Monthly views.
  6. When you're finished, select Save or Save and close.

I've also included a detailed resource about creating, uploading, and managing budgets which may come in handy moving forward: Create, upload, & manage budgets
