Welcome to the Community, @unicleaning. Let me show you how to disconnect a bank account in QuickBooks Online (QBO), so we can start anew for this year.

There's a significant distinction between disconnecting an account from online banking and inactivating it from your Chart of Accounts.

Instead of deactivating accounts linked to online banking, we recommend disconnecting them. It prevents new transactions from being downloaded by QBO. Your existing accounting data will not change if we remove an account from online banking. We can reconnect it at any time to resume downloading transactions.

To do that:

  1. From the Accountant view, go to Banking.
  2. Select the tile for the bank account.
  3. Click the pencil icon and select Edit account info.
  4. Select Disconnect this account on save. This option will not be available if QBO is downloading new transactions. Wait a few minutes for the update to complete before attempting again.
  5. Select Save and close.

If it's unlinked to a bank or credit card, here's how to make an account inactive in your Chart of Accounts:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Locate the account you want to delete.
  3. Click the Action dropdown, and select Make inactive.

Moreover, I'd recommend reviewing your accounts monthly in QBO to ensure they match your bank and credit card statements. By doing so, we can guarantee that your books are balanced and accurate. I'll share with you some articles as your guide when reconciling:
