HOW TO REMOVE AN OLD BANK ACCOUNT IN CHART OF ACCOUNTS

In QBO, you can make an old account inactive to manage and categorize your chart of accounts. However, you can consult your accountant first. If the account has a balance of $0, then it is a simple process to make it inactive. If the account has a remaining balance, it is essential to note that deleting it can have significant effects since accounts are interdependent to maintain a balanced financial report. Furthermore, we suggest creating a journal entry to transfer the remaining balance to another account. Rest assured that all your existing transactions will remain in your financial reports even after the account has been made inactive.

 

Once you're ready to make the account inactive, follow the steps below to achieve your goal:

 

  1. In Settings, click Chart of Accounts.
  2. Decide what account you want to delete.
  3. In the Action dropdown, select Make inactive.
