Hi there, northmainautomot.

I'm here to help you rectify this connection issue.

There are certain bank errors that block QuickBooks from downloading new transactions. If you happen to encounter one, follow the links listed in the Step 4 section of this article to be guided in fixing it: What to do if you get a bank error or can't download transactions.

I would also appreciate it if you can tell me the name of your bank. This way, I'll be able to check our records here if there are any reported cases.

If you didn't receive any error messages, you can try signing in to your bank’s website to check if everything is working on their end. Then, manually update your bank connection to get the latest available transactions. Here's how:

  1. Select Banking or Transactions from the sidebar menu.
  2. Go to the Banking tab.
  3. Choose the appropriate bank account.
  4. Click Update.

You may also perform some basic troubleshooting steps to isolate the issue. At times, the accumulated cache in your browser causes sync and connection issues between your bank's website and QuickBooks. Start by accessing your QBO account in a private or incognito window. Please refer to the shortcut keys I've listed below:

  • Ctrl Shift for Google Chrome
  • Ctrl Shift for Firefox & Microsoft Edge
  • Command Shift for Safari

Once you're in, head to the Banking or Transactions menu again. If you're able to connect without any issues, go back to your regular browser and then clear its cache and cookies to start over fresh. Alternatively, you can switch to other supported browsers.

With regard to duplicate transactions, you can exclude them from the Banking page to get rid of them. Lastly, here are some articles that you can read to help speed up the reviewing process of your online bank transactions:

I'll be right here to continue assisting if you have any other concerns or additional queries. Just leave the details below and I'll get back to you.

I have had the same issue since 3/15 with People's United Bank. I have: 1. Used private browsing; 2. disconnected and reconnected the account; 3. Changed my login credentials; 4. Spent no less than 10 hours with QB customer service; 5. Been told by People's that it is QB problem.

Same issue, the most frustrating experience in the world, I am furious with the system— you cont even add transactional docs— I am weary of wasting my money with this application—- a waste of time

@SIya

Explore a workaround as I mentioned earlier. If your issue is the most frustrating experience in the world, time to explore another accounting app.

I'm having the same issue with Truist.  It's ridiculous.  When trying to connect to the bank through Quickbooks it won't even give me the option to sign in.  I click "Sign In" and nothing happens.  Eventually it says that I have to use a different browser.  HOW DO I FIX THIS?????????????????  Quickbooks support has been less than helpful.

Hi, @JCQ76. Allow me to chime in and help you with connecting bank in QuickBooks Online.

There are times that an issue like this occurs when we encounter a browser-related issue. We can fix this by running some basic troubleshooting steps.

I suggest performing the steps through a private window. It's the best place to check browser-related issues while working with QuickBooks. To save you time, use either of these keyboard shortcuts:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl Shift N
  • Safari 11 or newer: ⌘ Shift N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl Shift P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl Shift P

If it works fine, you can go back to your original browser and clear its cache to start fresh. You can also use another supported and up-to-date browser to narrow down the result.

When everything is all set, you can do a manual download for your transactions or check your bank’s website to see if there’s an issue in their end.

From there, you can now update your bank info in QuickBooks Online.

Here’s how:

  1. Go to the Banking menu or Transactions menu.
  2. Go to the Banking tab.
  3. Select the tile for the bank account. Then select the Edit ✎ icon.
  4. Select Edit sign-in info.
  5. Update your info as needed.

In addition, I've got this helpful resource to guide you further on what to do if you get a bank error or can't download transactions in QBO.

Also, you can read through this link if in case you’re ready to categorize the transactions. Then, proceed with your reconciliation to keep track of your statements and balances.

If you have any other banking concerns, let me know by adding a comment below. I'm more than happy to provide additional assistance. Have a good one!

It’s not using Chrome which is my default browser.  Looks to be using Quickbooks.  Am I confused?  Want a screenshot?

Nice to have you joined this thread, Oren.

I've checked here on my end and the investigation is already tagged as resolved.

If you're still having an issue connecting your Bank United (FL) to your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account, I suggest contacting your bank. It could be there's a maintenance issue on their end that hindrance the connection between the two.

In the meantime, you can manually upload your transactions in QBO. I'll show you how.

  1. Sign in to your Bank website and follow the instructions to download the file as QBO, .CSV, or .QFX (maximum file size 350KB).
  2. Ensure to download only those transactions that haven’t been downloaded to your account to avoid duplicates.
  3. Go to the Banking or Transactions menu.
  4. Select Upload transactions or Upload from file.
  5. Click the Drag and drop or select files box and select the file you downloaded from your bank. Then select Continue.
  6. From the QuickBooks account drop-down, select the account you want to upload the transactions into, then click Continue.
  7. Follow the onscreen steps to match the columns on the file with the correct fields in QuickBooks, then select Continue
  8. Select the transactions you would like to import and click Continue
  9. Click Yes to import the transaction and click Done

You can also read this article for more details: Manually upload transactions into QuickBooks Online.

Once done, you might want to utilize these links for guidance in ensuring your accounts are well organized:

I'm all ears if you have any other questions connecting your bank and managing your transactions in QBO. Keep me posted by leaving the details in your reply. Wishing you and your business continued success!

What about the issue with connectivity to Wells Fargo?  I have not seen that this is resolved.  It's been since 12/9.

I'm having the same issue with my bank account that has been linked for several years, I get the Unknown error message from QBO when trying to Update or link the accounts. I have my business saving and business checking accounts linked to QBO.

A) I was trying to update the info for my business checking account then but when I edited the account sign-in info for my business savings account it did connect to my bank.

B) But wait, the business checking didn't update.

C) Solved! I waited for 20 minutes and then I was able to Update/link the business checking account too.

Maybe this was just fixed by QBO support and my actions above didn't do anything?
