Question

I closed a bank account, disconnected it, and even removed it from the CoA and it still shows under manage connections. How can I remove it?

The error from the legacy account that was closed, disconnected at save, and even removed from the CoA is preventing me from connecting my new account.

I can help you with removing the bank account and connecting your new account successfully, @Akazo.

Can you tell me more about the bank that you're trying to connect to and the error you're having? That will help us resolve the error you're having.

A regular browser's cache stores temporary internet files from your browsing history. However, as it collects too many files, this may cause an error when connecting your new account.

You can use a private browser or an incognito window in logging in to your account and checking your Banking page and adding your new account. This helps isolate the issue since it doesn’t store data in the cache.

Here are the following keyboard shortcuts:

  • Safari: Command + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: CTRL + Shift + P
  • Google Chrome: CTRL + Shift + N
  • Microsoft Edge: CTRL + Shift + P

If it works, here's how to clear cache and cookies to fix issues when using QuickBooks Online. Restart your browser right after. You can also proceed by using other browsers if the steps above don’t work.

After you've added your new bank account, you'll need to match, categorize, and reconcile them to guarantee your books are accurate and there are no duplicates:

That should help you remove the old and add this new bank account. If you need further guidance with your bank account connection, let me know in the Reply section below. Have a great rest of the day!

None of this works. When I go to "Manage Connections" it shows the old account has been disabled but when I try to connect the new account (at the same bank) I get an error saying that the account has been closed. It is obviously still trying to pull data for the old account even though I disconnected it. Is there any way for Quickbooks support to remove all references to that legacy bank account from my QB installation? My disconnecting and then removing the account from the CoA still kept a link to it under "Manage Connections" that I cannot remove and it is stopping me from adding the account that I really really need to run my business.

Thanks for getting back to this thread, @Akazo.

I can see how the importance of being able to get an account off of your Banking menu would aid you in managing your business transactions in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Currently, once an account is connected to online banking, you will be unable to remove it from your list of banks in the Banking menu, even after disconnecting it. However, you can make it inactive from your chart of accounts.

You can utilize this article to know more about inactivating accounts from your chart of accounts in QBO: Make an account inactive on your chart of accounts in QuickBooks Online.

I'd also suggest reconciling your accounts every month. This will help manage your income and expense transactions and detect any possible errors. For the detailed steps, please check out this article: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.

I'm all ears if you have other banking concerns and questions about managing accounts and transactions in QBO. You can drop a comment below, and I'll gladly help. Take care, and I wish you continued success.
