Question

I dated my 12/31/21 reconciliation as 12/31/22. My accountant is having a cow. How do I correct the statement date, given that I've already reconciled 1/31/22?

Welcome to the Community, @larry-dushkes. Let me provide some information about changing an incorrect date on a reconciliation.

We can still adjust the termination date if the reconciliation is not complete. You can return to the reconciliation page and change the Ending Balance and End Date. Here's how to do it:

  1. Go to Accounting on the left menu.
  2. Click the Reconcile tab.
  3. Choose the bank account from the Account drop-down list.
  4. Tap the Resume reconciling button.
  5. Tick the Edit Info button located in the upper right-hand corner.
  6. Change the Ending Balance and Ending Date.
  7. Press Save.

If the reconciliation is complete, QuickBooks Online does not allow you to change the date. We have the option of undoing the reconciled transactions. Please take the following steps:

  1. Click Accounting at the left panel and choose Chart of Accounts.
  2. Locate the account for the transaction and click View register.
  3. Look for the transaction that you want to undo reconciliation.
  4. In the check column, repeatedly click the top line of the transaction until the box is blank to remove it from the reconciliation.
  5. Click the Save button.

See the article Undo and remove transactions from reconciliations in QuickBooks Online for more information.

Then, you can reopen the reconciliation and enter the correct termination date. The methods and details are found in the Reconcile an account in the QuickBooks Online article.

If QBO doesn't match your bank statement at the end of reconciliation, fix the problem using the instructions in Fix issues when you're reconciling accounts in the QuickBooks Online article.
