Question

I deleted my beginning account balance instead of editing. How do I get it back or start over?

Hi @kalieivey-yahoo-, I'll help get it back!

Let's access your Audit Log report to determine the amount of the beginning account balance and recreate it. I'll show you how.

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Under TOOLS, select Audit log.
  3. On the Date changed section, select Today.
  4. Below the Events menu, select Deleted/Voided Transactions.
  5. Select the Deleted Check transaction.
  6. Click View.

From here, open the account register and enter the beginning account balance manually:

  1. Go to Accounting.
  2. Select Chart of Accounts.
  3. Find the account where the beginning account balance was deleted.
  4. Under ACTION, select View register.
  5. On the transaction selection below the DATE column, choose:
    • Check = negative beginning account balance
    • Deposit = positive beginning account balance
  6. Choose the Opening Balance Equity account.
  7. Enter the amount of the beginning account balance.
  8. Click Save.

I've included this reference that'll help you understand your account and its transaction history which breaks down how much money you have or owe: The Chart of Accounts in QuickBooks.
