I don't know what my QuickBooks pin is

I'm setting up a bank feed between my bank and QuickBooks desktop. Everything is ready to be connected but QuickBooks is asking for my QuickBooks pin. I don't remember ever setting one up and payroll is NOT paid through QuickBooks, so the normal method of "I forgot my pin" didn't work. I go to Employees - Payroll - and the option to go into settings and change it is not there because payroll is not paid through QuickBooks. I just need the pin to connect the bank feed, how do I find it?

Some banks require a pin before connecting them to a third-party application/software such as QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). This can be the reason why you're getting a request to enter a pin when setting up your account in the Bank Feeds Center.

 

I'd recommend reaching out to them to verify this request. This way, we can ensure that you're able to connect your account to QuickBooks.

I am having the same issue. When I contact the bank, they tell me they do not use pin numbers for business accounts. I am stuck. What is the solution???

Not to worry, @SarahWh. We're here to help you set up your account.

 

You'll need a PIN or password from your bank when connecting the accounts to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) through Direct Connect. If they're unable to provide the information, we recommend using the Web Connect method. You'll have to download a file (.QBO) with your transactions from your bank. Then, import that file to QuickBooks.

 

Here's how to download your bank transactions:

 

  1. Go to your online banking account to get your file.
  2. Check or follow your bank’s instructions to get a copy of the data and then save it on your computer.
  3. Ensure that the data range is at least one day before your oldest transaction to avoid duplicates.
  4. Please take note of the supported file format. It should be a QuickBooks Online (QBO) file. 
  5. Download your transactions and save the file to your desktop.

 

To import the file to QuickBooks:

 

  1. Go to the Banking menu.
  2. Select Bank Feeds and then Import Web Connect Files.
  3. Find the QBO file that you've downloaded and click Open.
  4. When asked to select your bank account:
    • Use a QuickBooks account that exists if the account you're importing transactions into is already set up in QuickBooks.
    • Create a new QuickBooks account if the account you're importing transactions into isn't in QuickBooks yet. Learn how to create an account.
  5. Click Continue. You'll see a dialog box telling you that the data has been successfully read into QuickBooks. Select OK.

 

Once done, go to the Bank Feeds Center to review your transactions.
