Question

I have ~$3,000 more in my actual checking account than QB shows. How do I track it down? Thank you!

I started out the year matching, but gradually over the year the actual $ in checking is increasing over what QB shows

I'll be here to help, @sunniepage. I want to ensure you can track the cause of your bank account imbalance.

Let's compare your transactions from in QuickBooks to the actual bank statement to identify why the dollar amounts don't match. But first, here are some of the reasons your bank balances don't match:

  • Transactions are not yet posted or cleared in your bank account and are not included in your bank statement
  • Transactions in your bank register have been reconciled incorrectly
  • Duplicate transactions can be caused by adding instead of matching them

To fix this, let's open your bank register and compare all your transactions that fall under the date of your bank statement. To do so:

  1. Go to Banking.
  2. Under Bank and Credit Cards, select your bank account.
  3. Click Go to Register.

Once done, you may need to delete those transactions separated from the list of reviewed entries. Here's an article you can read to learn more about how you can review your transactions in your register: Find, Review, and Edit Transactions in Account Registers.

I've also included our Banking articles in case you need the topics and ideas about how you can manage your bank account and transactions.

If you need any additional assistance while managing your online banking transactions,@sunniepage, please let me know and leave a comment below. I'll be sure to get back to you. Take care always!
