I have a customer who purchased a gift card & added a $10 tip.I have already made the credit card transaction but have not done an transactions in qb online to record it.

Allow me to share some insights to help you on how to account for the $10 tip and what is necessary thing to do in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Since your customer overpays a gift card or gives you a tip, you need to record the income, you can turn a customer overpayment or credit into a tip. To do so, here is how:

Step 1: Add an income account to track tips

1. Go to Settings and select Chart of Accounts.
2. Click New. Relying on your account view, you’ll either see a panel labeled New account or New category.
3. Choose the option you see below for the next steps.

Step 2: Create a tip item

1. Go to Settings ⚙, then choose Products & services.
2. Select New, then non-inventory.
3. Enter a Name, (ex: Tips)
4. For the Income account, select the account you created in Step 1.
5. Then Save and close.

Step 3: Record the extra money as a tip

If you haven't created a sales receipt in QuickBooks Online, you need to record it to accurately reflect the gift card purchase in your financial records and accounts. Here's how: 

1. Click the Plus (+) icon, then select Sales Receipt.
2. Select the customer's name.
3. Enter a line under PRODUCT/SERVICES and choose the gift certificate you added.
4. Add the gift card amount and the sales tax rate.
5. Click Save and close.

However, if you already created a sales receipt for the gift card purchase you can edit the sales receipt and then add the line item for the $10 tip.
