I have a deposit/credit that I want to assign tags to partial amounts. Can I do that? Example: I deposit $1000 that I want to tag $100, $400 and $500 separately.

The tags that you want to assign within the deposit would only be assigned to the whole transaction, not particular amounts. Here's two guides that can provide you with more details:
