Hi there, star-ake.

Let me share with you some information and steps in inactivating accounts in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Yes, you can make your account inactive by going to the Chart of Accounts. But QuickBooks will automatically create a Journal Entry (JE) and the balance will transfer to another account.

Please note that if you want to make it active again the balance will not move it back or change the JE. If you wish to continue, please follow the steps below.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Accounting tab on the left side.
  2. Choose the Chart of Accounts button.
  3. Locate the account and click the drop-down arrow beside the View register
  4. Pick Make Inactive, then tap Yes to confirm.
  5. Hit the small gear icon then put a checkmark in the Include Inactive to see it in the list and what's in the account.
  6. Double click the account to review it.

For more details, check out this article: Delete an account on your chart of accounts in QuickBooks Online.

Furthermore, I highly recommend getting in touch with a professional accountant to handle your account accurately.

I've also added some pages that might help to add the account number, review the usage limits, and other topics.
