Question

I have our account set up to import transactions from the bank but it for some reason automatically assigns things to accounts that are completely wrong.

How can I set it up so it does not make suggestions.  With checks it will just include a "vendor/payee" that has nothing to do with the transaction.  Or auto assign accounts.  Is there a way to wipe it clean and erase all rules or assumptions it might be making and start clean?

Welcome to the Community space, @cstheater. I'll provide the details you need to fix this and have your imported transactions routed to the correct account inside QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Before importing bank transactions to the company file, you'll want to ensure that the Enable suggested categorization is unchecked on the Banking page. Doing this will prevent the system from suggesting what categories to use for the imported transactions. We'll write down the steps below to get you going:

  1. Access your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. On the left navigational bar, click the Transactions tab and select Bank Transactions.
  3. Click the Gear icon beside the Export to Excel icon.
  4. Uncheck the box beside Enable suggested categorization.

Also, you can utilize the Batch Actions button to disable or delete all the existing bank transactions inside your company file. Here's how:

  1. Access your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. On the left navigational bar, click the Transactions tab and select Bank Transactions.
  3. Click the Rules section, and then check the box beside the Priority column.
  4. Select the Batch Actions button and then choose Disable or Delete. If you choose to delete the rules, click the Yes button so they won't apply to future transactions.
