I'm unable to download the Quickbooks Desktop app using QB's Help page instructions. Am I missing something? Is there also another way to do it?

I just purchased QB Online but also want to download the Desktop version for its conveniences.  Here are the first two steps for how to download it on QB's Help page (link at bottom of this question):

1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online account. 
2. Go to Settings ⚙. Then select Get the desktop app.

But when I go to Settings, that option isn't there at all. So now what? Maybe I'm missing something or there's another option.

Thanks Rea for the explaining the difference between the two. Now following the instructions in the link you sent me, I'm back to my original problem - this time I've attached screenshot for reference. The instructions say: Sign in to your QuickBooks Online account, then Go to Settings (the little gear), then select Get the desktop app.

I do NOT have that prompt in my Settings view, "Get the desktop app." Again, please see my screenshot for reference of what I see. Can you help me? Am I missing something?

Hello there, Dorretha. Thanks for providing a screenshot. I'm here to provide clarification why you don't have the prompt to get the desktop app on your end. 

 

As my colleague @ChristieAnn mentioned above downloading the QuickBooks Desktop app is only available on QuickBooks Online Advanced and Accountant versions.

 

If you have the versions mentioned, you'll need to manually download and install the QuickBooks Desktop for MacBook. Before downloading the new app, ensure to quit all QuickBooks apps and QuickView from running.

 

To download, here's how: 

 

  1. Follow this Download link to download the new QuickBooks app for Mac.
  2. Follow the instructions on the download page.
  3. If you see this message, An older item named "QuickBooks" already exists in this location. Do you want to replace it with the newer one you're moving to, just click Replace. 

 

After that, launch the new QuickBooks app for Mac by following the steps below: 

 

  1. Go to the Finder icon on the bottom left corner of your Mac and click the Applications folder. 
  2. Select Always Allow if this message pops up: QuickBooks wants to use your confidential information stored in Intuit ID... in your keychain. This is simply macOS validating the new application.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions.
