I'll guide you in reconciling your account in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @NancyP62. Doing so will help you keep your financial records accurate.

Since you already have entered your transactions on your bank register, ideally, we'll need to settle these entries before proceeding to the next month and reconciling them. To keep your account balance accurate, I recommend fixing your previous data as it affects your current and future balances as well as equating your reconciliation to zero.

To begin, I want to know what specific data you have incorrectly entered into your bank registers. Have you entered an incorrect transactions? If so, we can remove them from your bank register by following the steps below:

  1. Go to the Transactions menu, and select Chart of Accounts (COA).
  2. Select the account you want to reconcile by tapping the View register under the Action column.
  3. Locate each transaction you want to remove from the register to delete them manually.
  4. Tap the transaction to expand, and press Delete. Then, select Yes.

On the other hand, if you have entered an incorrect opening balance, we can edit this to change into the correct one. To ensure we have the correct data, let's refer to your real-life bank statement for the day you decided to start tracking transactions in QuickBooks. Then, edit your opening balance with the steps below;

  1. Go back to the COA, and look for the account you want to add to the opening balance. Then, press View register.
  2. Find the Opening Balance Entry. It should have an Opening Balance in the memo column.
  3. Tap this to expand the details. Then, click the Edit button to make changes.
  4. Edit the amount and click Save.

If you haven't entered an opening balance after creating an account in QuickBooks, you can go over to this article to learn what to do to enter the entry: What to do if you didn't enter an opening balance in QuickBooks Online.

Nonetheless, if you still prefer to start this year, you can leave the previous year's transaction unreconciled and begin your reconciliation in January 2024. Given that you'll be starting to reconcile the month of January this year, you can refer to your December 2023 statement ending balance as this will be your opening balance on the following month.

A complete guideline is also outlined in this article to ensure you're following the correct procedure for reconciling an account: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online. Moreover, I also suggest you consult with your financial advisor to guide you along the process and avoid any discrepancies.
