Question

I need to void a check that was written in 2020. As far as I can tell, this would affect the 2020 year end. How do I void the check in 2021?

Hello, @maryjodollar.

I can help you void your checks in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

I agree with you that voiding a check that was written in 2020 can affect or create a discrepancy on your books especially if it's already reconciled. I'd suggest communicating with your accountant before voiding the transaction. This way, they can advise the best course of action to take.

Once confirmed, you can follow the steps below to achieve your goal.

Here's how:

  1. Click the Expenses tab, then hit Filter.
  2. In the Type field, choose Check.
  3. Select the date range in which the check was received and hit Apply.
  4. Locate the check, then tap Void from the drop-down menu under Action

5. Press Yes to confirm.

For more details, check out this article: How to void or delete a check-in QuickBooks Online.

I've also shared these pages with you about how to make changes to past reconciliation, handling vendor transactions, and other related matters.

If you have additional questions about checks, please post them here. I'm happy to give an explanation and answer. Keep safe.
