Question

I signed up today, and I connected a bank account and a credit card and QuickBooks only downloaded data from two months instead of going back to January 1. What’s wrong?

It's great to see you in the Community space, Steve. I'll share useful information and steps to help you manage your online banking transactions.

When you connect your bank and credit card accounts, QuickBooks Online automatically downloads the most recent transactions. While some financial institutions enable you to download transactions from the last 90 days, others allow up to 24 months

However, if your bank only allows you to import the last 90 days of data, can manually upload the entries into QuickBooks. To start, add the correct start date of the transaction you want to import.

Here's how:

  1. Sign in to your bank or credit card's website.
  2. Follow the methods on how to download CSV of your transactions to your computer. Every financial institution has different steps.
  3. Ensure the date range for the download begins at least one day before your oldest transaction.
  4. Download your data. Save the file somewhere you can easily find it, like your computer's desktop.

Once done, let's upload the file in the program:

  1. Go to Transactions, then Bank transactions.
  2. Choose the blue tile for the account.
  3. Select the Link account dropdown and then Upload from file.
  4. Hit Drag and drop or select files and then add the CSV you downloaded from your bank. Then Continue.
  5. In the QuickBooks account dropdown, enter the account. Then Continue.
  6. Follow the onscreen steps to match the columns on the file with the correct fields in QuickBooks. Then Continue.
  7. Enter the file you would like to import. Then Continue.
  8. Click Yes, then Done.

To ensure all entries are accounted for correctly and with no duplicates, you can categorize and match them. Then, reconcile them to ensure your books are accurate.

I'll be around if you still have questions about banking or bank transactions. Just drop them in the comment section below, and I'll be happy to answer them for you. Take care.
