Question

I've followed the steps on the site to import trips via Google Takeout but it keeps telling me there's an error connecting and no trips were imported. Try again later.

Let's work together in importing trips via Google Takeout in QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE), @ray93

To import trips via Google Takeout, we need to ensure that we sign in to your Google account in a separate browser. By this, we can ensure that the Google account is open in another browser before we open the QBSE account on the other browser.

Here's how:

  1. Sign in to the Google account you want to export miles from. Keep this open in a separate browser tab.
  2. Sign in to QuickBooks Self-Employed.
  3. Go to the Miles menu.
  4. Select the Add trip ▼ dropdown and then Import Google trips.
  5. Select the Google Takeout link.

By doing this, it will open the Google Takeout page in a new tab. Moreover, we can proceed to these steps to export:

  1. In Google Takeout in the Select data to include section, select the Location history checkbox.
  2. Select the Multiple formats button and then JSON from the Location history dropdown. Then select OK.
  3. Click Next step.
  4. In the Delivery method ▼ dropdown, select Add to drive.
  5. In the File type & size section, select .zip for the type and 2 GB for the size.
  6. Select Create Export.

Hello,

This did not work. I am still getting the same error message.

Thanks for updating us about this, Ray. Let's resolve this matter together so you can import your trips into QuickBooks Sel-Employed (QBSE).

Since you're getting the same error when importing trips, we can check if this is not caused by your regular browser.

To proceed, please refresh your browser and then try importing your trips. If the result remains the same, I recommend logging in with your account using a private browser. It restricts websites from using cookies and doesn't record any data history.

Please follow these shortcut keys below to open a private window:

  • Safari: Command + Option + P
  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Firefox or Internet Explorer: Ctrl + Shift + P

If you're able to import your trips into QBSE successfully using an Incognito mode, it confirms that there's an issue with your regular browser. We can fix this by clearing your cache and cookies.

However, if the issue persists, I recommend using another supported browser. For more information about this, you can check this article: System requirements for QuickBooks.

Moreover, I'm adding these articles that can help you manage your mileage accordingly in QuickBooks:
