Question

Intuit barely imported any transactions from my Delta Amex acct. So went to Amex, downloaded 2020 transactions and merged. Now there are duplicates everywhere within Self-Employed transactions. How do I clean up the duplicates?

Hi there, @christopherdale. Let me share some information why you're getting duplicate transactions.

When you connect your accounts to QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) online banking, QuickBooks downloads your latest transactions. The way your financial institutions communicate with QuickBooks impacts the data you receive.

To isolate why duplicates happen, double-check your bank statement. You can sign in to your bank's website and pull up the statement for the period you see the duplicate. If you see the transactions in it twice, the system has downloaded them correctly.

Next, you'll have to make sure your account is only connected to QBSE once. If so, you can hide one of them to stop the system from downloading duplicates.

Here's how

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Select Bank accounts.
  3. Make sure your bank account is connected once.
  4. If there's a duplicate, select the toggle to OFF in the Show Account column (Please see the screenshot below for your reference).

After that, remove all the duplicate transactions downloaded from your bank.

  1. Go to the Transactions menu.
  2. From the Account drop-down, select the business account.
  3. Find and select the transactions you want to delete.
  4. Select the Exclude icon.
  5. Click Apply.

For more info on how to exclude transactions, check out this helpful article: Exclude or delete transactions. You can also remove connected accounts and delete all related transactions at any time.

Furthermore, each time you put transactions into QBSE, you need to categorize them. You can refer to this article for the complete details: Categorize transactions in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

I'm always here if you have other banking concerns or inquiries about managing your self-employed transactions in QBSE. Take care always.
