Question

Is anyone having issues bringing over transactions from their bank? It's been a month and it won't update automatically and I'm losing my patience with QB

It says it is updating but nothing shows up and nothing is going into the register so it isn't even automatically putting them into categories.  Literally, nothing has shown up from my bank since November 15th and when I pull it over manually from my bank it screws up my numbers.  So I'm at my wits end.

I understand the importance of updating and bringing your bank transactions in QuickBooks Online, Bennys. Let's figure things out so we can fix this and get you back to business.

Can you tell me what specific bank you're having this issue with? It will help me provide an accurate solution to your concern.

Moreover, there are possible reasons why your transaction won't update automatically in QuickBooks. The issue might be on your bank's end, or changes in your bank account. With this, I recommend checking your bank or credit card's website.

You can follow the steps below to get the URL QuickBooks uses to connect with your bank.

  1. Go to Transactions, then select Bank Transactions.
  2. Select Link account, then search for your bank.
  3. Copy the URL listed for your bank.
  4. Sign in to your bank or credit card's website using the copied URL.

Then, check for the following:

  1. Check your account for messages, notifications, or alerts.
  2. Look for any display issues, which can block QuickBooks from downloading new transactions.
  3. Check your bank's website for any announcements about new security requirements.

If everything is good, you can go back to QuickBooks and try updating your bank transactions.

You can also update your bank information in QuickBooks if you make some changes on your bank's website. Here's how:

  1. Go to Transactions, then select Bank Transactions.
  2. Select the bank account, then click the Edit icon.
  3. Click Edit sign-in info.
  4. Update your information as needed.

Additionally, you can fix specific bank errors when you encounter them when downloading or updating your bank transactions.

Also, I'll leave these helpful articles to manage your bank transactions and make your account balanced and accurate:

Keep me posted, and I'll be here to lend you a hand if you have further questions about updating bank transactions and other QuickBooks-related concerns.

I am having the same issues with my checking account. When I try to update the sign-in information, I get the notification that an unexpected error happened and my bank account could not connect. Mind you I have checked the sign in credentials multiple times and they work flawlessly on my bank's website. What am I supposed to do???

I understand the urgency of getting this banking issue fixed, Ybowersox.

We appreciate you for performing some troubleshooting steps to resolve the banking error message. May I know what specific bank you're having this issue with? This helps me better isolate the problem and check our records if there's an investigation.

Since everything looks good on your bank's end, we can go back to QuickBooks and manually download your transactions again:

  1. Go to the Banking menu and select the Banking tab.
  2. Click the Update button.

For more details about this process, please visit this article: What to do if you get a bank error or can't download transactions in QuickBooks Online. If the problem persists, I recommend reaching out to our Technical Support Team. They'll pull up your account in a secure environment and investigate what's causing this issue. To reach them, follow the steps below:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. Select Help (?).
  3. Select either tab to get started:
  • Assistant: Get quick, personalized answers. Select a suggested option, or type a question or topic you need help with. If you decide you need further help, you can still Talk to a human.
  • Search: Search the QuickBooks Online knowledge base directly, or select Contact Us and choose a way to connect with us:
    • Start a chat with a support expert.
    • Get a callback from the next available expert.

For more details and support hours open this article: QuickBooks Online Support. In the meantime, we can manually upload your transactions into QuickBooks Online as a workaround. I'll show you how:

  1. From the left pane, go to Banking or Transactions.
  2. Press Upload transactions.
  3. Select Drag and drop or select files and choose the file you downloaded from your bank. Then select Continue.
  4. In the QuickBooks account ▼ dropdown, select the account you want to upload the transactions. Then select Continue.
  5. Follow the onscreen steps to match the columns on the file with the correct fields in QuickBooks. Then select Continue.
  6. Choose the transactions you would like to import. Then click Continue.
  7. Hit Yes and when you accept your transactions, press Done.

It seems lots of people are having issues with their bank feeds.  Try disconnecting the feed in your QB bank feed center and reconnect.  I went through hours of tech support calls and they did nothing to help but aggravate the situation by their language barrier!

Mine is finally working after disconnecting and reconnecting it!

Good Luck!

December 15, 2023

Thanks, I keep trying that so so many times but to no avail 😞  I'm beyond frustrated, but thank you for your reply!

December 15, 2023

Hi Benny, funny that was the same date that my bank feed quit working on Chase too!

Try disconnecting your bank feed and reconnecting it, it worked for me... what a relief!

QB support does not do a one time charge anymore and they now want $600 for support to talk to people who don't understand the issue in the first place.

December 15, 2023

You are so lucky yours was able to be reconnected!!  Wow, they charge $600 now?  They didn't charge me, I would never pay that... it's insane!

December 23, 2023

Still having the problem!

Cannot interface with American Express (on Mac Desktop 2024).

QuickBooks Support emailed me back on the 12/19 to ask if it was still not working, and then emailed me on 12/24 to close the case since I hadn't gotten to respond (less than 24 hours after the original email!).

I got a different response from Intuit yesterday 12/22  saying they are still working on it, with the case apparently still open.

Is this only a problem with QuickBooks Desktop? Does it work on QuickBooks Online?

December 26, 2023

It is a problem with both from what I gathered.  I use QB online and it STILL isn't working for me.

Yes, the bank and credit card transactions won't update for the TD accounts.  I don't have access to add/link accounts from TD to QBO without deleting the current set-up?  This is a consistent issue with QBO.

January 1, 2024

Hey there, Greenland

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), connecting the same TD bank account with the same bank information won't be possible if it's already connected. That's the reason why you'll have to delete the current setup.

Also, may I know if you happen to encounter any specific errors? This way we'll be able to understand and provide you with a detailed explanation about it.

In the meantime, I recommend contacting our online team support so that they can further investigate the root cause of this matter.

Here's how:

  1. In your QBO account, select Help (?)
  2. Choose the Search tab.
  3. At the bottom of your screen, click Contact Us.
  4. Type your concern. Then click Continue
  5. You may choose CallbackAppointment, or Chat as your way to connect with us.
  6. Kindly fill out the provided field such as your First nameLast nameEmail address, and Phone number.
  7. Depending on what you choose as your way to connect with us, click CallbackSchedule appointment, or Chat.

You may also visit this material to learn more about our support: QuickBooks Online Support

As an alternative, you can do a manual update within your transactions menu.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Transactions menu located at your left navigation panel.
  2. Select Bank Transactions.
  3. Click Update

Furthermore, you may also want to import your transactions manually in QBO

I have 4 clients that are using First National Bank (PA).  One of the clients reached out to Quickbooks around the end of November which is when we first found the problem.  It's now January 2024 and it is still not working.  Quickbooks Online can you give an update to the problem with First National Bank not syncing with Quickbooks Online.  When is a fix expected?  It's very aggravating to have multiple clients that we have to use a work around on-especially during tax season.

January 5, 2024

Hello healthy accounting,

We wouldn't like you to experience syncing issues between First National Bank and QuickBooks Online, especially during this tax season. However, this has been occurring now.

There hasn't been a specific timeline provided for when the issue will be resolved. Rest assured we're actively working to identify the cause and provide a solution.

If any of your clients who use this bank are not on the list of affected users, please ask them to contact our Support Team so we can add their company details.

  1. Within your QBO account, go to Help in the upper-right corner.
  2. In the Search tab, click Contact Us.
  3. Click Continue

Additionally, you can refer to these articles when reviewing and reconciling your accounts in QuickBooks.

We'll continue to update your client on the status of this issue via email. Be sure to post again if there's anything you need about bank connectivity and managing bank data in QuickBooks.

I am having the same problem!

January 23, 2024

my quickbook accounts arent updating either. It's been 3 days and all I see is the whirly ball thinking about it.

Thank you for following up on this thread, sbellep36.

It's vital to have accurate records of your banking transactions. This allows you to track them on time and reconcile your account easily. Let's work together so you can fetch the latest entries.

Before we start, can you tell us the name of your Financial Institution (FI)? Have you come across any error codes or messages? Any information you can provide will greatly assist us in determining whether there is an ongoing investigation regarding the issue.

In the meantime, let's perform a manual update to refresh the connection between QuickBooks Online (QBO) and your bank. Here's how:

  1. In your company, head to the Transactions menu on the left panel and choose Bank transactions.
  2. Click the Update button.
  3. If prompted, enter your Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) credentials and select Continue update. You must enter the information within 2 minutes of being prompted.

In the event you receive an error, choose the code listed in Step 4 in the following article: What to do if you get a bank error or can't download transactions in QuickBooks Online

Once you have the latest transactions downloaded to QBO, categorize them to the correct account. For additional resources, you can perform the solution in this article to find missing transactions downloaded from your online bank and credit card accounts: What to do if you can’t find downloaded transactions in QuickBooks Online.

I also collated some resources that discuss in detail the process of balancing your bank or credit card account, ways to prevent duplicates of entries, as well as creating rules that automatically categorize transactions. Simply open each article for the full details:

If you still need further assistance with updating your account or have other banking-related concerns or questions, click the Reply and post your comments. I'll get back to make sure everything is taken care of, sbellep36.

According to my latest call with support, there are known issues with certain banks, (FirstBank is mine) where we (users) are not getting bank transactions downloaded into Quickbooks Online. This has been happening since 11/2023, and yet NO communication or progress has been made on this issue. I believe that we are all owed some sort of refund for this application not working correctly, and no reasonable workaround has been provided, other than manually entering transactions from your statement, that are missed. Anyone have any other information as of late?

April 17, 2024

So I read through the comments and nothing seems to help.

I have had this problem two months ago and today as well.

The only thing that helps is resetting the Intuit ID under the help menu. But first, go to the company menu and sign out. than go to help menu and choose reset intuit ID settings

April 19, 2024

For my fellow Mac users...

I read this comment, and of course these options don't exist on the Mac version. But I did do a Close Company/Log off, and then I did a de-authorization/reauthorization.

That didn't work, but I did stumble upon a Delete FiDir option in the process... a quick Google search took me to this thread:

https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/banking/re-unable-to-download-bank-feed-with-direct-connect-quickbooks/01/1412347/highlight/false#M111413

I did this, restarted, and direct connect worked immediately for the first time in 5 months!

I mentioned the other two steps, because I'm not sure if they are necessary or not.
