Is it recording a transaction as a "credit card payment" same as "matching" that transaction to an expense transaction?

When you record a payment to a credit card in QBO, you're essentially recording the transaction of paying off the credit card balance. However, it's important to note that matching an expense in QBO is different from recording a credit card payment. The two actions have different outcomes. 

Also, matching an expense in QBO involves linking a transaction to an existing record in the system, ensuring accurate accounting and categorization of expenses. Therefore, recording a credit card payment settles the credit card balance, while matching an expense categorizes expenses with the appropriate accounts in QBO.

If the credit card you use to pay the credit card expenses and your bank account is linked to QuickBooks, you can pay the credit card expenses by transferring the record. You can follow the steps below on how to transfer the payment and match the transaction:

1. Go to the Expenses tab from the Menu page.
2. Select the account you need to transfer the payment from.
3. Choose the transaction, then select the Pay down credit card radio button.
4. Tick the Transfer Account ▼ dropdown menu and select the account you want to send the transaction to.
5. Click Confirm.
