A transfer only allows me to classify it as an addition to an unknown asset.

I've got your back, Carmen.

Yes, there's a way to edit a transaction type in QuickBooks Online (QBO), depending on its location.

If the check is in the For Review tab, you can reclassify it to ensure accurate financial records in QBO. Let me guide you how.

  1. Go to Transactions, then Bank Transactions.
  2. Open the For Review tab.
  3. Find and select the transaction.
  4. Choose the appropriate expense account from the Category dropdown.
  5. Click Add.

However, you'll have to undo it if it's already in the Categorized tab. Here's how:

  1. Navigate to the Categorized tab and look for the transaction.
  2. Under the Action column, click Undo.
  3. Go back to the For Review tab and locate the transaction.
  4. Select the Category dropdown and pick the right expense account.
  5. Hit Confirm.
