Question

Is there a way to reset Quickbooks all together? I set it up and decided to change the bank account it would be linked to so I want to erase all data and start over.

If you are using QBO Simple Start or your QBO account > 60 days old, you should open a new blank QBO account and cancel the old one.

Good Morning @debra-boevansrea

I completely get wanting to reset. Sometimes it just seems easier to start from scratch.

If you're a new customer, you can simply start over. If you've used QuickBooks for a while, you need to create a new company.

If you’re using QuickBooks Essentials, Plus, or Advanced and your account is less than 60 days old, you can purge the information and start over. If your account is 60 days or older you’ll need to cancel the account and start a new company.

Prior to doing this be sure to disconnect any bank accounts or third party apps to avoid permanent damage to those connections.

To delete your data:

  1. Sign in
  2. Look at the URL in your browser's address bar. Delete all the text after the last / and enter purgecompany

For example:

  • Before: https://...qbo.intuit.com/app/homepage
  • After: https://...qbo.intuit.com/app/purgecompany
  1. To confirm you want to delete your company data, type Yes.
  2. Select Wipe data.

Once the process is finished, you can start your books from scratch.

I highly recommend taking a look at this guide prior to deleting your data: Delete your data and start over in QuickBooks Online

Have a great day!
