Hello there, lhinckley.

I appreciate you reading and watching videos from the Community articles. I'll be happy to share with you some insights about reconciliation to correct your 2020 data.

This may not be an easy process since it will also affect this year's reconciled account. Any changes can unbalance your books. To minimize the impact, you can undo reconciled transactions by manually editing the status through the register.

Before changing anything, make sure you're making the right changes. Review the opening, beginning, and ending balances for the account holding the transaction. This will help you find the root of the issue and decide if you need to make changes.

Here are some links that can help you:

To unreconciled transactions:

  1. Go to the Accounting menu, then choose Chart of Accounts.
  2. Find the account and select View register
  3. Select the transaction you want to unreconciled.
  4. Review the check column. If the transaction is reconciled, you’ll see an “R.”
  5. Select the box and keep clicking it until the box is blank. This removes the transaction from the reconciliation.
  6. Click Save.

If you need to start over, I recommend consulting a ProAdvisor or QuickBooks Online Accountant user. He/She has a special tool to undo the entire reconciliation. You can invite one to perform this task for you.

You can also start with our reconciliation guide to learn more about reconciling and related errors.

Please let me know how it goes or if I can be of more help. Take care and enjoy the rest of your day!
