Mac Desktop 2023 spinning ball when renaming payee information

Having the toughest time trying to add downloaded transactions to QB and it has brought my ability to efficiently do accounting to a screeching halt. Most of my bank accounts have the option to import QBO files, when happens without event. However when I try to create payees from the download payees added via the QBO file and press enter, the mac loading wheel just spins for about 90 secs. Processing 600 plus records like this will take forever.

Now, I've already tried all of the boiler-plate "fixes" i've seen on the forums (Delete PLIST files, Uninstalling/Reinstalling, Opening sample files, Upgrading (which is grayed out), etc.) Quickbooks seems to have a monopoly on this sector but not a monopoly on how to maintain a consistently working product. I'd upgrade, but in true Intuit fashion, there's no clear cut way to do it or proof that it would even fix my issue. I can't bail at this point because I need to get this accounting up today and I'm several years of data in to Intuit.

Any help would be much appreciate.

Run QB Desktop 2024. Did you encounter the same error message?

I'd hate to do any upgrade and the issue still not be fixed. But i'm open to it...if I can find where to get it. My option to upgrade is grayed-out in QB and it's not clear on the site how to upgrade alternatively.

Hi there, nalacomm.

I have some troubleshooting steps that can assist you in resolving the performance issue with QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

To get the best experience with QuickBooks Desktop for Mac, I recommend optimizing your server and workstations. For more detailed guidance on this matter, I suggest referring to this article: Manage your computers to fix QuickBooks Desktop performance issues.

Furthermore, it is highly recommended to create a backup of your company file. This will enable you to restore your data if any issues arise.

However, if the problem persists, this time, update QuickBooks Desktop and Database Server Manager on your host or server. Then, clean up your data to improve QuickBooks performance. To do this, see below details:

  • Reduce your Database (DB) file fragments. Too many DB File Fragments will slow down your computer.
  • Verify your company file weekly. See Resolve data damage on your company file.
  • Transaction log files (TLG ) keep track of changes to the file since the last backup. Large TLG files can cause performance issues. Make a manual backup with full verification to reset the TLG.
  • Zero lines slow down performance and if you run cash basis reports with inventory, your Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) could be wrong. Remove any detail lines with a zero price or quantity.
  • Clear the queues of forms you want to print or email.
  • Turn off search indexing in QuickBooks Desktop.

For future help, you may want to check this user guide to learn how to manage your customer and vendor transactions: QuickBooks Desktop Mac Plus User's Guide.

Feel free to reach out if you have any follow-up questions or other QuickBooks concerns. I'm here to help, nalacomm. Stay safe.
