My display of check register changed from most recent last and oldest showing first. This after a restart. How do I change the display to show the most recent first?

I'd be happy to guide you on how to show the most recent transaction in the check register. 

You can click on the DATE drop-down icon that is located below the Filter icon in your register to show the most recent transaction. This is how it looks like:
