You can import the payroll data as Journal Entry but you will need to use an importer tool.

Hello there, bbobhays. I'm here to shed some light on migrating your payroll data into QuickBooks Online (QBO).

If you will use the QBO Payroll program, you can manually enter their pay history using prior payroll. This is to ensure that everything is accurate for year-to-date (YTD) totals on your employees’ pay stubs to report the correct W-2 information at the end of the year.

Otherwise, you can follow 4Gal's suggestion above to import your payroll data by creating journal entries inside your account.

Moreover, you'll want to consider using a third-party application to import your payroll data from Excel to QBO. Here's how:

  1. Go to this link: Apps help QuickBooks run better.
  2. From there, enter a keyword in the Search field. This action will display a list of apps.
  3. Select one to show the full details of the app, and scroll down to see customer reviews to help you decide which app is best suited for your business type and needs.

Additionally, you can check out the steps outlined in this article to complete your payroll setup tasks: Get started with QuickBooks Online Payroll.

Please don't hesitate to reply to this thread if you have any other questions regarding importing payroll data into QBO. I'm just around to help. Have a great day!
