Thanks for reaching out to the Community about this, sales10. I'd be more than happy to help you fix your 2019 and 2020 reconciliations.

Initially, you'll want to be aware of what causes beginning balance discrepancies. I've compiled a list below:

Next, you can begin fixing the issues.

Here's how:

  1. Review your original opening balance and confirm it's correct.
  2. In QuickBooks, go to the Accounting menu, then click Reconcile.
  3. Check which account you entered in your Account drop-down list. Compare it with the account's statement to make sure you're reconciling your correct account and month.
  4. If the account's connected to online banking, match and categorize all of its downloaded transactions.
  5. In the event anyone makes a change that affects your beginning balance, you'll receive a "Your account isn't ready to reconcile yet." message before you start reconciling.
    Review
If this displays, hit the We can help you fix it link to open your discrepancy report. Review it to determine if and how you'll need make changes. Also be sure to talk with whoever made these changes before editing anything, as they may be intentional.
  6. Once you've identified that corrections need to be made, review each transaction on the report one at a time by clicking View to see your history of changes.
  7. Look over the Change Type column.
    Look
This tells you what's changed. Make your edits based on the message it displays. After reviewing everything on the discrepancy report, the Total Discrepancy Difference should be $0.00. Check your beginning balance again and confirm it matches the beginning balance on your bank statement.
  8. Select Resume reconciling to continue.

Once your beginning balance is accurate, you'll be able to start reconciling. If you see any issues in the middle of a reconciliation, you'll want to review our Fix issues at the end of a reconciliation article.

In the event you've followed everything in our reconcile workflow guide, but still have questions, I'd recommend working with an accounting professional to help get everything back on track. If you're in need of one, there's an awesome tool on our website called Find an Accountant. All ProAdvisors listed there are QuickBooks-certified and able to provide helpful insights for driving your business's success.

Please feel more than welcome to send a reply if there's any questions. Have a great day!
