Question

New bank feeds format created separate check register

I've been using QB Desktop for 12 yrs or so and very recently my bank feed was no longer compatible with Bank of America, our primary business. I had to completely recreate my connection and use the newer format for uploading and posting bank transactions. When I did this and began to match transactions all of them are now posted to a completely different check register which has none of my historical data. How to I merge the new transactions into my "old" check register? I have no idea how this happened.

Thanks for any help,

Liz B

Thank you for your loyalty to QuickBooks, @LizBee.

I'll share some information on why QuickBooks created a separate check register when uploading transactions from Bank of America.

With the new bank feed connection update to Bank of America, QuickBooks only relies on how BOA syncs transactions. However, it is also possible that the original account is damaged. That's why QuickBooks created a separate check register. To verify, let's run some troubleshooting steps to fix data damage on your QuickBooks Desktop company file.

You can follow these solutions to fix minor data issues with your company file:

Feel free to check out this article for step-by-step instructions on each solution: Fix data damage on your QuickBooks Desktop company file.

On the other hand, you can follow the instructions below to merge new transactions into your old check register.

  1. Go to the Accountant menu, then select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Take note of the name of the account that you'd like to keep.
  3. Right-click the name of the account that you want to merge, then select Edit Account.
  4. Replace the account name with the one you want to keep, then select Save & Close.
  5. A prompt will appear, select Yes to merge the account.
