One of my checking accounts is no longer linked to the bank. How do I relink it? Tried multiple things.

One of my checking accounts is not linked to the bank.  In the chart of the accounts it is there but on the banking page it is not.  When I am in the chart of accounts and click "connect bank" it takes me to the place that connects to banks.  When I choose the checking account however, it creates a new account in Quickbooks rather than linking the existing one.  Is this something I can fix in Quickbooks?  Or do I have to do it on the bank side?  This account is with Farmers Insurance FCU.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey there, @allison35

Thanks for sharing the full details of your concern. I'd be glad to help you connect your bank account to QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Ideally, you should be able to select the accounts you want to connect in QuickBooks. This step comes after you sign in to your financial institution with your user ID and password.

I'd recommend running some basic troubleshooting steps to fix the issue. Sometimes too much cache build-up in a browser can cause unexpected behavior with the product. This can be the reason why the system automatically creates a new account instead of having the option to select one.

To start with, open your account in a private window.

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • MS Edge and Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

If it works, you can clear your regular browser's cache to let it start browsing from scratch. But if not, you can use one of our other supported browser apps instead.

For complete steps in connecting your accounts, please check out this article: How to add your bank and credit card accounts to QuickBooks Online and download your transactions.

Once you connect your accounts, QuickBooks will automatically download your transactions. You'll want to review and categorize them to make sure they go to the right accounts.

Should you need any additional assistance connecting your bank account, you can leave a comment below. I'll be sure to get back to you, @allison35.

Are the linked bank accounts saved as part of our Account, or tied to a Company? We have been paying monthly but recently requested access via TechSoup. In order to do that, we need to backup and copy our existing Copy and transfer it to the new Company. On chat yesterday, an Intuit rep told me all the Bank linking would transfer over, but today a rep told me they would not.

Hi there, jallgire.

I'm here to provide clarifications on your banking concern.

Ideally, directly connected bank accounts are linked to a chosen account in the chart of accounts, not tied to the entire QBO company.

Additionally, bank accounts connected via third-party apps usually work the same way as directly connected bank accounts, but they may require additional mapping. Therefore, we won't be able to provide additional details on this matter without knowing how the third-party app transmits the transactions to QuickBooks. I recommend you contact their support team.
