Question

Onliine banking connection - screen scraping????

I've been having issues with Quickbooks (online) connecting to my credit union (Affinity Plus FCU).  I'm forced to re-authorize the connection every time I access QB--I don't have this issue with the AmEx connection.

The QB representative told me that the connection to Affinity+ use "screen scraping", rather than an API call.  It this true?  I can't image that QB would rely on a 1990s technology for this.

Ultimately, I just want the connection to my credit union to be reliable and not prompt me for credentials each time I access QB.

I hear your sentiments, craibuc. I'll provide some insights about how a bank connection works with QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Please know that QBO is dependent only on the connection your financial institution provides. Since your bank has a screen-scraping connection, QBO would simulate a human interacting with the bank’s website by logging in and navigating through the pages.

That said, the connection could break if it made changes or updates. This is why you're being asked to re-authorize and have to provide your login credentials.

In the meantime, I'd suggest utilizing Chrome when accessing your QBO account and allowing cookies in your browser. Cookies are small pieces of data that websites store on your computer when you visit them. This way, it will remember your preferences and keep you logged in.

Nonetheless, please note that Intuit has been working diligently with larger financial institutions to implement direct API connections instead.

While this connection is unavailable, I recommend sending your feedback to our Product Development Team so they can review it and might consider implementing it in the future. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon at the top.
  2. Select Feedback.
  3. Type in your feedback and product suggestions.
  4. Click Next to submit them.

Please let me know if you have further questions or concerns about your bank transactions. I'll be more than happy to help. Keep safe!
