Question

Payee names are not autocompleting

I just upgraded to QB for Mac 2022. It seems to be doing a better job of auto-matching items when downloading them from my bank, but it's doing a very weird behavior when trying to input payee names. Rather than pull suggestions from the list of payees, it is only autocompleting with items from the Chart of Accounts. The only way around it is to go through a dropdown of every payee in my list and select one, which is cumbersome.

For example, I start typing Chase and as soon as I type "C" it autocompletes with "Computer Expenses" which is not a payee, and is an account in the chart of accounts. It does the repeatedly and annoyingly every time I try and enter a Payee. Any ideas why that's happening?

Hi there, @eljst.

I'm here to help fix the issue you're having when entering payee names in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for Mac.

We haven't received any reports similar to what you're having. To isolate this, let's perform some troubleshooting steps.

Let's start by updating your QBDT for Mac to the latest release to avail the most recent updates and fixes. Outdated software leads to performance issue and affects your working progress. Here's how:

  1. From the QuickBooks▼ dropdown, select Check for QuickBooks Updates.
  2. If a newer version is available, select Install Update.
  3. When prompted, select Install and Relaunch.
  4. When the update is complete, QuickBooks for Mac automatically opens.

You can also refer to this article to learn more about keeping your QBDT up-to-date so you always have the latest features and fixes: Update QuickBooks for Mac to the latest release.

If the issue persists, I suggest running the Verify Rebuild tool. This scans your QBDT company file for issues and fixes them right away. Let me guide you how:

To Verify:

  1. Go to the File menu.
  2. Select Utilities.
  3. Click Verify Data,
  4. Then select OK to close all windows

To Rebuild:

  1. Go to the File menu.
  2. Select Utilities.
  3. Click Rebuild Data, then select OK to close all windows.
  4. QuickBooks will ask to make a backup before rebuilding your company file, select OK
  5. Select OK once the rebuild's finished.
