In reconciling a bank account, the check register balances with the bank statements.  However, the online banking shows a different balance than shown in the check register and reconciliation.  Double checked cleared items and amounts, all ok.  The bank balance is less than shown by the reconciliation and check register. Any ideas of what to try? Running PC, QuickBooks Desktop.

Thank you.

Thanks for reaching out to us, 529Sarah.

The balance displayed on Banking is the real-time bank balance. While QuickBooks check register balance is based on what you have on your statement (specific period) or the entries recorded within the program. It includes those you haven't reviewed yet (haven't cleared from your bank),

Please make sure QuickBooks Desktop is updated to the latest release. This guarantees you have the most recent features and fixes. Then, you can check if your Banking balance has already cleared transactions that we're not yet recorded or downloaded in QuickBooks. Let's click the Refresh icon couple of times to update the connection between QuickBooks and your bank.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Banking menu.
  2. Select Bank Feeds.
  3. Click the Bank Feeds Center.
  4. Choose your account and click the Refresh icon a couple of times.

Whenever you're ready, you can categorize and reconcile your accounts.

I'll be glad to help you again if you have more questions about bank feeds. Just add the details in the comment section.
