QB for Mac 2023 - Missing Data

Running the latest MacOS and the latest Quickbooks for Mac Desktop app. The last few times I open the company file I see that recent data is missing. For example, it lost the last month’s bank reconciliation that I entered yesterday. I saved the rec reports as pdfs, so I know I’m not crazy. The data is just missing. Anyone else see this bug?

I know some troubleshooting steps to help you bring those missing data, ChannelDan.

Let's ensure you've opened the most recent backup copy of your company file. I'll walk you through the steps:

In QuickBooks

  1. From the QuickBooks menu, select Preferences.
  2. Select Backup.
  3. Click Reveal Backup Folder, then double-click the folder where you save your backup files.
  4. You can select Date Modified to sort by date and see your most recent backup.

Spotlight search

  1. Click the magnifying glass \uD83D\uDD0D icon in the menu bar.
  2. In the search field, enter .dmg, and select Show all in Finder.
  3. To sort by date and see your most recent backup, hit Date Modified.

Please go over each file carefully. The largest file will most likely contain the most data. We can now restore your company backup file.

You can also use the Verify and Rebuild data tool to ensure your company file is error-free.

@ChannelDan

How big is your file size?

Run the Verify/Rebuild Data utility to be sure.

I have this same (or similar) problem with QB for Mac 2024 (desktop).  Twice now in the last few weeks as I'm putting the last year's data into it, I will open file to see months missing.  Data is not in backup file(s) either.

After the first time, I've been manually backing up every hour or so; closing file, opening file, verify data is there, then continuing.  This worked well for next 3-4 hours.. so I got a bit complacent.. and did the last 3 hours w/o doing this (9 months of banking data).  Went to back up.. backup file created.. but spinner of doom stayed on screen for 30 minutes.. at which point I force quite.  Lost all the data.. back to Mid Dec.  Last backup files end in mid-November.. which is strange I I thought I backed up at end of Dec.  So very, very, very frustrating.

Not sure if issue with QB or new way Mac handles files - Document directory cloud syncing or Time Machine snap-shooting.  Regardless.. this is a real problem.  Never had it before in 20 years with QB on Mac.  QB 2020 was last version I used and had no issues.

Having issues regarding your data will surely delay your working progress, @ndornquast. I appreciate all your efforts in dealing with this problem.

I'm here to share some troubleshooting steps to help you find your missing data in your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for Mac.

First, I recommend making sure that your QBDT for Mac is updated to the latest version to ensure you have access to the newest features and fixes. Here's how to do it:

  1. From the QuickBooks dropdown, select Check for QuickBooks Updates.
  2. If a newer version is available, select Install Update.
  3. When prompted, select Install and Relaunch.
  4. When the update is complete, QuickBooks for Mac automatically opens.

For more detailed information, you can refer to this article: Update QuickBooks for Mac to the latest release.

Additionally, it's important to check the system date for your QBDT Mac to avoid update issues:

  1. In your Mac, choose the Apple menu and select System Settings.
  2. Click General in the sidebar and choose Date & Time on the right. (You may need to scroll down.)
  3. Turn on Set time and date automatically and click Set. Then, enter a network time server for your region.
  4. After that, Turn on Set time zone automatically using your current location.
  5. Close and reopen QuickBooks Desktop.
  6. Run the update of QuickBooks Desktop again.

However, if the issue persists and you still can't locate all your data, I recommend reaching out to our support team. This way, they can further investigate what's causing this problem and guide you on a possible fix.

For future reference, check this site to access and download the user guide for Mac 2024: QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2024 User's Guide.

Please inform me of any developments, @ndornquast. If you have questions, feedback, or concerns about the missing data, feel free to reach out to the Community. I'll assist you in any way possible.

Thanks @Clark_B

1.  I am up-to-date.  I had been using QB for Mac 2020 and recently upgraded to latest version of QB for Mac 2024.  That's when this issue started.

2.  Your instructions are kindly meant, no doubt, but apply to the Windows version.
