Question

QBO Envelopes for Cash Flow

I am using my QB Cash envelopes to track my estimated tax payments I need to make quarterly for my business. I transferred money into the envelope before the quarter end so I don't spend that money.  Once I transfer the money back to QB Cash from the envelope to pay my quarterly taxes I am done with that envelope.  If I were to delete that envelope, will the transactions that had been in that Envelope be deleted as well.  I have zeroed it out.  I used the envelope only for a short period if time.

Hello, smbcpa42.

Thank you for reaching out to the Community. You can simply disconnect the account if it was connected online. I'll also show you how to completely remove the electronic feeds if you don't need the data from the bank.

  1. Go to the Banking menu. Then select the Banking tab.
  2. Tap the tile for the bank account.
  3. Click on the pencil ✎ icon, then select Edit account info.
  4. Press the Disconnect this account on save checkbox. Note: If QuickBooks is downloading new transactions, you won't see this option. Wait a few minutes for the update to finish and try again.
  5. Hit Save and Close.

I've adding this link for additional information: Learn more about QuickBooks Cash accounts and the Cash Flow menu

Yes thank you for that information but that's not what I was asking. I use QuickBooks cash and I set up those envelopes to set money aside. When I'm done using the envelopes and I've transferred the money from the envelopes back into QuickBook cash to be able to use the money those envelopes sit there zeroed out but I wanted to know can I delete them and if I delete them will those transactions be deleted from my QuickBooks permanently. I completely understand how to disconnect bank feeds that's not what I was asking. But I do appreciate your insight.

Thanks for coming back, smbcpa42.

The option to delete an envelope is unavailable in QuickBooks Online (QBO). However, we can edit it or change its name and ensure you have transferred the money out from the created envelope. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Cash Flow menu.
  2. Choose the Envelopes section.
  3. Select View next to the envelope you want to take the money out of.
  4. In the Current balance section, select Transfer money.
  5. Select Transfer out.
  6. In the From field, make sure you selected the correct envelope.
  7. In the To field, select your QuickBooks Cash account. You can also select one of your connected bank accounts, but the transfer will take a little longer.
  8. Enter the amount you want to take out of your envelope.
  9. Press Next, then Tap Continue when the transfer request finishes.
