Hi there, Volta10.

Thank you for visiting the QuickBooks Community. I'll ensure to share details about Rule Creation in QuickBooks Desktop so you'll be able to achieve your goal in setting up rules in the system.

There's an option in the Preferences where you can choose between Create rules automatically and Always ask before creating a rule. This setting is connected to your renaming rules for Bank Feeds in QuickBooks Desktop. With this, it could be the Always ask before creating a rule wasn't set up, and that is why rule creation does not automatically pop up in the system. I suggest turning on the said feature so you'll be able to receive a message about creating a rule.

Here's how:

  1. Click the Edit menu at the top.
  2. Choose  Preferences.
  3. Select Checking and click Company Preferences.
  4. Checkmark the Always ask before creating a rule under Bank Feeds. You also have the option to select Create rules automatically from there.
  5. Click OK to save the changes.

Once done, you can now add transactions using renaming rules in QBDT. You can open this article to view steps on how to perform the steps: Use renaming rules for Bank Feeds.

Lastly, you may refer to this article so you can view different details on how to reconcile your accounts so they match your bank and credit card statements: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Desktop.
