Question

Quickbooks Self-Employed keeps crashing. Is this happening to anyone else? Is there anything I can do to fix it?

When it crashes, everything freezes. I have to close the webpage and start over.

It's my priority that you can use QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) smoothly, jbuhlman.

Unexpected behavior, such as buttons not working or the program crashing can be caused by a cache full of history and temporary files. I recommend accessing your account via private browsing or incognito mode. These browser sessions do not retain local files or cache, eliminating the potential for a webpage issue.

The steps may vary depending on the browser you're using. Follow these steps on how to bring up one:

  • Google Chrome: Press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Press Command + Shift + N
  • Microsoft Edge: Press CTRL + Shift + P

If you can open and perform any tasks without any issues, clear the cache of your regular browser to remove the stored data.  The process will also improve the application's overall performance. As an alternative, you can use a supported browser.

In this article, you can read more about how to get the best experience possible when using QBSE: System requirements for QuickBooks Online, Accountant, Payroll, and QuickBooks Self-Employed. It includes specifics about the recommended operating system and internet speed.

Browse our online resources for tips and related articles to assist you in completing any QBSE tasks. From there, you'll find topics like mileage tracking, tax preparation, and handling banking-related activities.

I did what you suggested and used the incognito tab on chrome. It crashed within 60 seconds of use. I have a regular quickbooks account for my business and there seems to be no problems with that version. Only the Self-Employed version crashing constantly. Is this happening to anyone else or is it only me?

Thank you for trying the steps provided by my colleague above, @jbuhlman.

I'm here to provide you with further information to help you signing-in into your account successfully.

QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) works well with Google Chrome version 78 or newer. Since you're still having trouble even after using an incognito window, try logging in to your QBSE using other supported browsers (Firefox, Safari, and Microsoft Edge).

If you're still having trouble logging in using other supported browsers, I suggest reaching out to our Customer Support team. They can check your account in a secure environment, isolate the error you're and help you in resolving it.

Here's how to reach them:

  1. Go to the Assistant menu from the top bar.
  2. Enter Talk to a human and select I still need a human.
  3. You'll now be provided with support options that are available at that time.

You can check this article for more information about the different types of support we offer and their availability: Contact QuickBooks Self-Employed Support.

Stay in touch if you have additional concerns logging in to the account by leaving a comment below. I'm always glad to help in any way I can. Have a great rest of the day!
