Reconciliation

Trying to reconcile account and it shows my beginning balance is off -$343.08 but when I click on fix it only a deleted check for $84.70 appears.

To clarify, have you checked your opening balance to ensure it's correct? Often times we can see issues when beginning balances when the opening balance is incorrect. Let's double-check the opening balance for the account you're reconciling. Sometimes, the opening balance doesn't include transactions that were still pending when you created the account.

 

Here's how: 

 

  1. Go to Bookkeeping or Accounting, then select Chart of accounts.
  2. Find the account on the list.
  3. Click on View register.
  4. Search for the opening balance entry. It should have "Opening Balance Equity" in the Account column.

 

If the opening balance is correct, I recommend consulting with your accounting professional. This way, they can review your books and resolve the incorrect beginning balance. They may recommend using a Journal Entry to resolve this issue. If you don't have an accountant, don't sweat it. You can find one here in our Resource Center
