I am trying to find instructions that show how to reconnect a bank account to an existing Chart of Account, specifically how am I supposed to use the drop down on a credit card that has sub-accounts?

Hello,

Connecting credit cards with sub-accounts can be tricky and you'll need to do a little investigating before you decide the best method.  I highly recommend that you search You Tube for a vide by Hector Garcia called "QuickBooks Online Tutorial: Connect a Credit Card with multiple sub-accounts & How to reconcile it".  He explains it better than I could.

As far as reconnecting an existing account, you'll need to disconnect the account from the bank feed before it can be available to reconnect.  Otherwise, if you don't do that step first, it will create a brand new account that will have to be merged.

   1. Look in the existing bank register to find the date of the last synced transaction.  You'll need to enter that date when you reestablish the connection.

   2. Go to the Chart of Accounts, find the bank or credit card and edit it.  Check the box that says "Disconnect this account on save" and then click Save.  That will free up the account to be reconnected.

Now you can go back to the Bank Feed and reconnect.  You will get a pop-up asking you which account to link and you should see the one that you just disconnected.  Then it will ask you the date you want to start the sync and you'll want to put in the date that you looked for in Step 1.

Hope this helps!

Hello, @dreadelsolinc.

I'm here to help reconnect your bank to QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Reconnecting bank feeds to the existing account is an easy process. Before doing this, ensure to disconnect and review the account in QBO.

 Here's how.

  1. Go to Bookkeeping, select Transactions, then select Bank transactions (Take me there).
  2. Select Connect account or Link account.
  3. Follow these steps to connect your bank feeds.

You may visit these links to guide you on how to categorize your transactions and reconcile your account flawlessly:

I had a credit card connected to my online bank and it was automatically downloading txs.  The credit card changed the URL to access the txs and it no longer worked and I couldn't find a way to edit the URL connection.  After the first spending time w/QB support (they told me an engineer would have to change the URL - and that was bogus and never happened).  The second time I called customer support my options were either manually downloading a file and then uploading or creating a new credit card account.  I thought maybe if I stopped downloading on my initial credit card account, I could restart it with the new URL, so I disconnected the acct but it disappeared from the 'Bank Transaction' screen so I can't relink it at all.  I created a new credit card account thinking I'd start downloading txs in that one from the time the URL was changed and keep the old credit card account for history.  Can't figure out how to link that one since it also isn't appearing on the 'Bank Transaction' screen. Ugh! any help/suggestions would be very much appreciated.  Really frustrated with QB Help desk giving me bogus info. Thanks, Peter

Good evening, @pguman

Thanks for stopping by the Community with your question.

If the bank isn't showing on the list to be able to link it to QuickBooks, then you'll need to submit feedback so our Product Developers can consider adding your new bank. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon in the top right-hand corner.
  2. Press the Feedback option.
  3. Enter your suggestions, and tap Next

I'm only a post away if you have any other questions. Bye for now!

Thanks Candice: when you say the 'bank' do you mean the credit card acct itself ? that's my real issue.
