Hi there, Lou38.

Welcome to the QuickBooks Community. I'll be sharing details on how connecting bank and credit card work in QuickBooks Online.

You can always add bank and credit card accounts issued by your Financial institution. Then, once you connect your accounts, transactions will download automatically and categorize. With this, if the gas card is given from your bank, you'll need to look at the card name from the search field to find it and check the following details below to ensure you can see the correct account:

  • Verify the spelling. Make sure the spelling is exactly as it appears on your bank's website.
  • Use very specific names to search for your bank. If you still can't find anything, try broader names like "Citi."
  • Enter your bank's URL into the search. For example, search for "hsbc.com." for HSBC.
  • Search for the name of the issuing bank, meaning the bank that issued your bank card. You can find the issuing bank's name on the back of your card."Chase," "HSBC," or "Bank of America" should work, but "Visa" may be too generic.

If you have tried all the options matching your card's name and still can't connect or if it doesn’t appear, you'll have to request support for your card.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Bookkeeping and select Transactions. Then, select Bank transactions.
  2. Choose Connect account.
  3. Search for the name of your financial institution. If QuickBooks is unable to find your bank, you will get the message, "Hmm, we can’t find [name of the bank you entered] in our list of supported banks," and you will be presented with helpful tips to try and locate your bank account.
  4. If you’re still unable to find your bank, click Request.
  5. Enter your bank's web address (URL) in the field provided and select Request.

However, if the aforementioned card issued by your gas station is only to use and pay for gas at the pump while taking advantage of discounts and perks offered by the card issuer, adding or linking this in QBO is currently unavailable.

Lastly, I'm adding this article to see various features you can use and how to utilize them while working on your business using QBO: Help guide for QuickBooks Online. It contains topics about accounting, banking, and payments to name a few.
