I appreciate your reporting to us about the problem connecting your American Express Company (Amex) card to your QuickBooks Online account, @mq123.

I understand the need for the software to work smoothly in automatically downloading and categorizing bank and card transactions. We have an ongoing investigation (INV-92976) wherein Amex cannot connect with the QuickBooks Banking tab. I recommend contacting Contact Support first to add you to the list of affected users. You'll be notified promptly through email once a solution is available. Let me guide you on how:

   1. In your QuickBooks Online company, go to Help (?).

   2. Select either of these tabs:

  • Assistant tab and type Talk to a human.
  • Search tab and click on Contact us to connect with a support expert.

   3. Choose how you want to reach us (phone or chat).

For Plus, Essentials and Simple Start subscribers, support will be available M-F from 6 AM to 6 PM PT and Saturday from 6 AM to 3 PM PT. For Advanced subscribers, you may contact support any time and any day.

After contacting Contact Support, let me share a workaround to get transactions from your Amex credit card and import them manually into QuickBooks Online. Before proceeding, please check the date first of the oldest existing transactions in your Chart of accounts to avoid entering duplicates. Usually, this is the opening balance

Second, sign in to your bank or credit card's website and follow instructions on how to download CSV files of your transactions to your computer. Once done, here's how to upload your CSV file:

  1. In your QuickBooks Online account, click the Bookkeeping tab on the left navigation panel.
  2. Select the blue tile for the account you want to upload the transactions into.
  3. Select the Link account dropdown and then Upload from file.
  4. Select Drag and drop or select files and then select the file you downloaded from your bank. Then select Continue.
  5. In the QuickBooks account dropdown, select the account you want to upload the transactions into, then select Continue.
  6. Follow the onscreen steps to match the columns on the file with the correct fields in QuickBooks. Then select Continue.
  7. Select the transactions you would like to import. Then select Continue, then click on Yes.
  8. When you've accepted your transactions, select Done.

If this works, you might need to categorize and reconcile your uploaded transactions. Let me add these articles as your guide:

@mq123

Try opening your QBO account on any private/incognito browser. If the same error persists, use MT Online or one of the converter tools (e.g csv2qbo @ $60 one time license) for the time being.
