Spreadsheet format for bank rules in QBO

I would like to create a spreadsheet for banking rules so my client does not have to worry about setting up rules as he is working on his books. I saw steps on how to export from Desktop etc. but none of those apply. I was hoping someone would have a template on how to set up the rules in Excel so they can be imported to QBO.

It's great to see a new face here in the Community. I'd be more than happy to share some information about importing bank rules. 

 

The best route on how the spreadsheet would need to be set up is by creating a rule in QuickBooks Online, exporting it, and then go off the format that you see. From there, you'll be able to start entering the details needed to successfully import bank rules into QuickBooks Online.

Hello Candice,

 

I did try it that way and made sure the rule conditions show exactly as the one I had exported and that the spreadsheet was saved the same way as the exported one. However, when I try to import, I receive this error message:

 

"Something’s not quite right

Sorry, this isn’t the correct file type. You can only import a file that was exported from the Rules page in your other company."

Hi there, @Dmeier. I'm here to ensure you'll be able to successfully import bank rules to your QuickBooks Online (QBO) company.

 

To help get rid of the error, you can use other supported file types in importing your bank rules to QBO. To know the list of file formats accepted, please check this article: What file format can I use to import information to QuickBooks Online?. 

 

Once converted, import the bank rules again. For reference, check out this link: Import existing bank rules. 

 

However, if the issue persists, I recommend getting in touch with our phone support team to further investigate the root cause of the error. Once connected, you can also request a screen-sharing session so they can review your set up. To do so, refer to the steps below:

 

  1. Select the Help icon and choose the Search tab.
  2. Then, click Contact us and enter a brief description of your concern. 
  3. Next, select Continue and choose a way to connect to them.
