SunTrust Bank Merged with Truist now I can't import new transactions

SunTrust Bank merged with Truist Bank and now I can't import new transactions (either manually or by default). I keep getting error code OL-222. instead of finding the problem that many customers will be having in the coming days because of the merger, I was told to buy a new copy of QuickBooks (I'm using QB Pro 2021) or buy a support subscription. Why do I have to buy ANYTHING else? I am furious!  I have read through previous discussions about code OL-222 and tried most all recommended fixes and nothing is working.  Does anyone have a recent fix for this issue that worked?

Hi there, @Nora12. I can assist you with how to get rid of the error OL-222 in QuickBooks Desktop.

QuickBooks received an invalid response from the financial institution's server, resulting in Error OL-222. When you try to import one or more characters, this happens.

You'll need to fix the following unsupported characters in the.QBO file that are causing this error:

  1. Select Edit from the context menu when you right-click the.QBO file.
  2. To open the file, use any text editor program.
  3. Find and remove &amp from the text as it is an invalid character.
  4. Save the file once again.

There may also be an issue with Web Connect if you get one of these warnings when downloading or importing transactions from your bank:

  • An error was discovered by QuickBooks. We are unable to read the file given by your banking institution.
  • While processing your online banking data, an error occurred.
  • Your data was not loaded into QuickBooks, says the message.
  • The financial institution information for this download could not be verified by QuickBooks.
  • When you try to download QuickBooks, it appears to be stuck and prompts you to select a new or existing account.

For additional information on how to resolve Error OL-222 with QuickBooks Desktop, see this article: Learn how to fix import issues in QuickBooks Desktop.

In addition, you can then re-import the file into QuickBooks Desktop.

Let me know when you have clarification, and I'll be here to support you.

Thanks for reaching back to us and performing the steps shared above. I’m here to provide additional troubleshooting solutions to resolve Error code OL-222.

To start, I recommend updating the QuickBooks Desktop release version and making sure to create a backup copy of your company file and have the latest supported version of QuickBooks.

After that, let's correct again the unsupported characters in the .QBO file which causes this error:

  1. Right-click the .QBO file and select Edit.
  2. Select any text editor app to open the file.
  3. Find and remove &amp from the text as it is an invalid character.
  4. Save the file.

Once done, you can import the file once more to QuickBooks Desktop.

However, if the same error occurs, I recommend contacting our Support Team for further troubleshooting. To reach them, here's how:

  1. Open QuickBooks.
  2. Go to the Help menu at the top.
  3. Select QuickBooks Desktop Help
  4. Type Contact Us in the search box. Then, click on Contact Us at the bottom.
  5. Select the way you wish to connect with support.

You can also check out this link for more information on how to contact them: Contact QuickBooks Desktop support. Ensure to review their support hours, so you'll know when agents are available.

Let's work together to get rid of that banking error, @JaxBizGuy.

I'm here to provide additional troubleshooting steps to isolate the issue. Before we begin, ensure that you're using a supported version of the program, your internet explorer is updated to the latest version and secure a backup copy of your file.

Once done, download a copy of your Web Connect file from your bank's website. Ensure that this is a .qbo file. If not, here's how you can import one. When verified, see if you still encounter the error.

If yes, I'd suggest accessing your bank's website to review some notifications such as verification requests. If this is not the case, I recommend following Steps 4 to 5 of this article: Fix Web Connect import errors.

However, if the issue persists, I'd highly suggest reaching out to our Technical Support team. This way, they can further investigate the root cause of the error and provide a different way how you can resolve it.

You can also browse through this article in case you need a guide in categorizing transactions in QuickBooks Desktop: Add and match Bank Feed transactions in QuickBooks Desktop.

I'm just around the corner to help you in case you have any other banking concerns. Don't hesitate to post again here. Take care always and have a good one.
