The reconciliation box (that includes ending balance) is freezing up and won’t let me continue.  I’m using the Mac version.  I am unable to close the program.  Any help would be appreciated!

Hi there, Stacy.

I understand the importance of reconciling your accounts seamlessly. No worries, I've got a couple of steps that you can follow to fix your freezing reconciliation window.

Since you can't close the program on your device, you can end the task in the Task Manager. You can click Command + Option + Esc on your keyboard, then select QuickBooks Desktop to force quit the program.

Once it's closed, you can reopen the program, and then verify your data for errors or data damage. Before doing so, make sure to update your program to the latest version to incorporate all the software improvements and fix bugs. Then, you can follow the steps below to access the verify tool:

  1. Click the File menu, then select Utilities.
  2. Select Verify Data, then click OK to close all windows.
  3. If you see this prompt "Your data has failed the integrity check", you'll need to rebuild your file. If not, you're good to go.

Once the files are verified, you can rebuild them to fix the errors or data damages found. Here's how:

  1. Click the File menu, then select Utilities.
  2. Select Rebuild Data, then select OK to close all windows.
  3. You will be asked to back up your company file before doing the process, then select OK. If you don't want a backup copy, you can select Cancel and proceed to rebuild your file.
  4. Select OK once done.

Additionally, if you encounter issues with your bank transactions while reconciling, you can do a special reconciliation to save time and locate the cause of the discrepancy.
