Hi

We recently opened a bank account for the company, which is not added to the QBO, and we have transferred a small amount to this external bank account. How do I categorize this transaction in Banking?

Hello there, @Safoora. I'm here to help you manage your account in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Since your external bank account is not added to QuickBooks Online, we can manually create a bank account from the Chart of Accounts. Then, make a transfer transaction for that amount. I'll show you how.

Here's how to create a bank account:

  1. Hover your mouse over the Accounting menu.
  2. Select Chart of Account.
  3. Click New, then fill out an Account Type, Detail Type, and Beginning Balance.
  4. Once finished, select Save and close.

Please read this article for more details: Create subaccounts in your chart of accounts in QuickBooks Online.

After that, we can use the Transfer feature to record the transferred funds. Here's how:

  1. Click on the + New button and select Transfer.
  2. Select the bank account where the money is coming from, On the Transfer Funds From the dropdown.
  3. Choose the bank account that the money is going to from the Transfer Funds To dropdown list.
  4. In the Transfer Amount field, enter the amount transferred.
  5. Fill out all the rest of the needed information fields.
  6. Then select Save and close or Save and new.
