Question

Transactions importing incorrectly from bank on credit card

I have had a credit card for business since 2008.  Last year in 2021 the credit card company moved their assets to a different bank.  When that happened I was able to connect to the bank.  However, when the account updates via the link it brings over only one card holder's transactions that are on this credit card account.  There are 2 credit cards on this account and two different numbers.  Rather than showing it as one account when it downloads the transactions, it is only downloading one card's transactions rather than both.  However the statements are showing both as they should.  When I go to reconcile it is only showing one of the card's transactions and so I am unable to reconcile it.  Is there a way to have the bank bring both cards into the same account?  This was not a problem previously.  And I don't want to just ignore the cards transactions back to 2008. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

Hi there, @allison11_2.

I hope you're having a great day. I'm here to help you get your transactions downloaded correctly.

Let me share some info about how the parent and sub-account work in QuickBooks Online to guide you in handling them accordingly. There are two ways how your banks send the downloaded transactions to the program:

  • Transactions download to one account
  • Transactions download to the individual accounts

You'll need to connect the parent only if the transactions download to one account. Otherwise, link the sub-accounts if they download to individual ones. I recommend reaching out to your bank to verify how they send them.

When it’s time to reconcile, you only need to reconcile the parent account because all the transactions in the sub-accounts roll up into it. For more knowledge about the process, check out this article: About bank or credit card sub-account setup
