Hello jon-nuckels,

This happens if you connect parent a credit card account and its sub-accounts.

You can't connect the parent account and sub accounts at the same time. This triggers the error you get. You'll only need to connect the account where your transactions are downloaded. If all transactions go the parent account, just connect the parent account. If they are downloaded to the individual sub-accounts, you can connect all sub-accounts.

Here's an article for additional reference: About Bank or Credit Card Sub-account Setup.

If you have additional questions, please go back to this thread.

This is not working for me.  No account is connected. In fact, I have a brand new card and just added one account.  It still tells me it "is already linked to a bank feed."

Hello there, @Southside Plumbing!

Let me share a few information and help you set up your credit card successfully.

When connecting your credit card account, you'll have to make sure you've selected the correct link. Since, your account might have multiple names on the list of suggestions.

I've attached an article you can read to learn more about setting up your credit card: How to Identify the Correct Bank?

Here's also an article might be handy for your future reference: How to Upload More than 90 days of Bank Transactions?

Please let me know if you have any other questions or if you're referring to something else. I'll be always around to help.

Thanks for joining us here today, @MECLAX.

I have some information about connecting credit card accounts. You're unable to connect both a parent account and its subaccounts. If you try to connect both, you’ll get a message that the account is already connected. As mentioned by my colleague @JessT, you can only connect one account and create a sub-account for your other card to fix this.

To set up a sub-account:

  1. Go to Accounting and select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Pick New.
  3. Choose the account type and detail type. Then, tick the Is sub-account box and then enter the parent account (see the image below).
  4. Give your new subaccount a Name. You can also add a Description.
  5. Click Save and Close.

Hello!

I ran into the same issue. Allow me to provide my solution.

If you have a situation like this:

- One main credit card

- Two employee cards under the main card

It might make sense to have in your chart of accounts something like this:

Card 1

    Employee card 1 (sub-account)

    Employee card 2 (sub-account)

Not so! As the QuickBooks employees explained: some banks connect card information differently to QuickBooks than others. If this isn't working and you are getting the error "...Credit Card is already linked to a bank feed..." then please keep reading. I will explain how I got around this error.

Here's my chart of accounts solution:

Card name (categorized as a credit card)

    Primary card 1 (sub-account)

    Employee card 1 (sub-account)

    Employee card 2 (sub-account)

For example, let's say you use American Express:

American Express Platinum Business Card

    Primary card (1234)

    Employee 1 (1235)

    Employee 2 (1246)

Where (123X) is the last 4 of their card number. I do this for organizational and quick-identification purposes. It makes it easy to tell them apart! I personally name the cards something like:

Tom Smith (1234)

You don't need to re-enter the card name (like American Express Business Platinum Card) for each individual sub-account because it's already categorized under that card name which makes it easy to search for when finding a payment type.

PRO-TIP: Make all of these in your chart of accounts before linking your cards. Then, link your cards and select your new chart of accounts categories from the drop down that appears when linking your card.

What's really nice is that the parent category doesn't show up on your transaction list of banks and cards when sorting transactions. Just the cards. Yay!

Success!
