Hey guys!

I've messed up on a reconciled transaction. I entered the wrong amount on a deposit (typed $652). Went in and deleted it and corrected it (was suppose to be 604). Reconciled the new transaction in my register. Now when I go to reconcile it says my beginning balance is off $47. How do I go about correcting this?

Hi there, @thebadaccountant.

Editing reconciled transactions may result in differences between your prior and subsequent reconciliation balances. I recommend speaking with an accountant on how to handle the reconciled transaction so it doesn't screw up your accounts.

Here's how to edit an amount:

1. Click Accounting, then Chart of accounts.

2. Find the Transaction and the amount you want to edit and click the View Register to expand.

3. Double-tap on the transaction to modify the amount and hit Save.

If you need to edit the transaction, you can follow these steps:

  1. Click Accounting.
  2. Go to the Chart of Accounts tab.
  3. Select the bank account, then click View register.
  4. Look for the transactions and check if you can see R in the column.
  5. Select the transaction and repeatedly click the status until it's blank or unreconciled.
  6. Click Edit. Make the changes and then Save.

By clicking the Reconciliation status column and then clicking Save, you can return to the register and manually reconcile the transaction.

After that, try to reconcile the new month and look for any other errors. If you find any errors, you may use this article to assist you to correct them:  Fix issues for accounts you've reconciled in the past in QuickBooks Online.
